This is post is a summary of what my comp readers, Professor Jumadinova and Professor Brand, and I talked about on September 10th and 11th, 2024.
September 10th
On Tuesday September 10th, Professor Brand and I had our individual meeting where we discussed a variety of things including literature review resources and applying for the Kleeman Fund.
Professor Brand sent me a variety of useful resources including:
- The Milk of Dreams article
- Katherine Hayles, How We Became Posthuman Chapter 1 and Chapter 6
- The Uncanny Valley: The Original Essay by Masahiro Mori
- And a Professor Brand Orginal Presentation on the Uncanny Valley from her Photography II class
We also disccused how other pop culture references might be helpful as well such as Black Mirror or the Vice short on the aristry of sex dolls.
The last thing we discussed was the Kleeman Fund and she gave me tips on how to apply correctly. I need to be able to summarize my project in a few hundred words and highlight specific parts of the budget I need from Kleeman. I should apply for 500 but focus on more the supplies I need more than the tools. The sculptural components are especially nessecceary to purchase as soon as possible.
September 11th
On Wednesday, September 11th I met with my other reader Professor Jumadinova.
We discussed my progress so far and how I can continue to work even without having the funding yet. We talked about me playing around with GPT-4’s API using different prompts similar to my work in Junior Seminar.
We also talked about how as I am experimenting I need to take good notes for my methods sections to record my expermentation and thought process.
She also recommended that I start purchasing materials now that I can work with so I can have a prototype ready before the deadline.
Finally, she also gave me helpful guides and materials from openai to help me with understanding prompt enginnering and techniques to use.
