This is post is a summary of what my comp readers, Professor Jumadinova and Professor Brand, and I talked about on September 24th and 25th, 2024.
September 24th
With Professor Brand we discussed how I did not get funding this semester and alternative sources I can apply to which includes the Class of 1939 Fund. Otherwise I may have to rethink the project a bit because I can not afford the supplies. She also recommended that I talk with Professor Ian Thomas about the project because he had some good recommnedations for alternative and more affordable supplies I can use.
We also talked about fixing the target audience for this piece and how it is really going to be in this specific location of Meadville, PA in a gallery at the college. We also talked about how there will be interesting discussions with people who fear tech and our bodies being replaced (physically or mentally). People fear being replaced in the workplace and replaced elsewhere. There is a lot of anxiety around tech and this is meant to confront that. The exhibition will inherently show the limitations of our current technology which is part of the anxiety conversation.
We also talked about the movies Robocop and Existanz (which has a lot of TW). However, the idea of being connected to machines has a lot to do with my project. We also talked about how the AI dialogue will not sound like a human even if I use my own voice which is interesting.
September 25th
Professor Jumadinova and I discussed my progress this week including both software and hardware advancements. I got parts printed out using my new printer and I now have moving eyes with servos. The next step is finishing the eyes and working on the jaw.
We also talked about the presentation time being moved to after class to give time for discussion. My presentation will still only be 5 minutes long. She liked my impoved slides and said they were good to upload.
Finally, we talked about different types of prompting such as zero shot, few shot, and many shot as well as how to assign roles using prompts.
