This is post is a summary of what my comp readers, Professor Jumadinova and Professor Brand, and I talked about on October 1st and 2nd, 2024.
October 1st
With Professor Brand we discussed explaining my art to a non-art audience. We talked a lot about how to discuss the themes in the work without getting to deep. It is also important to think about artists in conversation with this piece and letting the audience be aware of them. The main think I was thinking about was how to explain post-humanism but we came up with this short defition that describes post-humanism as a way to broaden then definitions of what it means to be human and identifying how we already collaborate with non-human interfaces and technology already. I have to determine the over-arching goals of the piece without getting to specific. I also need to know my boundaries - this will not be the most advanced piece of tech yet but it will be enough to get the point of it having human likeness.
We also talked about my fears of my art not being a valid product but she explained that the goal of art is to generate conversation and that is enough to be valid. I can not force people who are not curious to be curious and that is okay.
October 2nd
Professor Jumadinova and I discussed my progress this week. I had a hard time getting the jaw to print and had a lot of mistakes. She noted that was okay as long as I took notes on my methods and progress and what adjustments I had to make to get it to work. I finally did get the bottom part of the jaw and now I am working on making the top part.
She also checked on my application to the Class of 1939 fund and I recieved $500!
Finally, we talked about my experimentation phase of my project and how I can do tests on the quality of the LLM outputs and the sentiment analysis. She also gave me the awesome idea of having a screen to display the text from the LLM. This will help with opening night when the gallary is really loud and make it so people who are hard of hearing can enjoy the piece.
I also discussed how I should request the separate room for my piece but if I can not get it I will need to add headphones as a plan B.
Goals
- Work on jaw printing
- Think about tests to do on code
- Think about how to suse a screen
- Define boundaries of project
