Summary:
This week I did not present, so I took notes on other’s presentations and I will describe things I thought were strengths and things that were weeknesses. Overall, every presentation I saw was really good and I think that the weaknesses are just small changes. I was really impressed by everyone and I hope to do the same next week.
Stengths:
There were presentations today that I saw had very “good” slides. The diagrams were well detailed and informative and let to a more informed presentation. Most presentations I saw had appealing looking slides.
Another strength I saw was that people showed a lot of enthusiasm for their projects and did a great job explaining why they would be a good fit for the job. I could tell some were more excited than others but overall enthusiasm makes the presentation more enjoyable to watch.
Lastly, people did a good job explaining how they were going to accomplish their task which made me realize I will have to say that during my presentation. People were specific with what type of models or languages they would use for their projects. I need to make sure to mention that I will be 3-D printing and casting my sculpture to also explain how I will make this project.
Weaknesses:
Some people did not rehearse their presentations. This led to points missed in their presentations or a lot of gaps in the presentation and hesitations. I hope to practice my presentation a fair amount before it is my turn so I am well prepared for what I am going to say that isnt written on the slides.
There were also some timing issues. This goes a long with the practice but making sure you keep a good pace throughout the presentation is very important so it does not become a rush of words at the end. I plan to time myself when practicing to get a feel for how long to spend on each slide.
Finally, I noticed some people’s slides did not address all the parts of the prompt and even more they did not say all the parts. More specifically, the prompts specifically ask for a clear conclusion but some people forgot to have one. To avoid this I will relook at the prompts and make sure to say anything that I am missing on my slides.
Conclusion:
Overall, people presented really well the first day and I hope to use what I learned from watching to improve my presentation next week. I think that I need to practice a lot more to be able to have a smooth presentation that accurately describes my project and the problems it is trying to solve. My biggest worry is the part where we explain why this project is important because it is an art piece and it feels like I will just be explaining why art is important. I will try my best through to make a consise yet understandable presentation. However, I think my slides are appealing so that will help with the presentation overall as long as I practice what I am going to say.
Goals
- Print more parts
- Practice presenation
