Summary:
For this activity we had to sign up for a mock interview to practice for real job interviews. My interviewer was Matthew Pegula. He helped my by talking about the interview process and how I can work on my creative skills to land the job!
What I Did Well
I did really well during his system design challenge about designing a robot that could play rock paper sissors. He asked me to think big about how I would design it and think about it and I broke it down into parts such as the computer vision part and the mechanical part. We also talked about how we can make the machine more fun to play against. I think I did really well coming up with ideas and answering his questions.
Where I Could Improve
I can improve with my technical skills. We did not get into coding for the interview but we did discuss how to tackle the coding interview. He helped me with a lot of my anxiety and gave me tips on how to practice for the more technical interviews. Now I just need to put that into action and practice. He mentioned that it depends on the place for how hard it is but most places are just using technical interviews to spark discussion and so it is good to talk during them.
How was my senior project an integral part to talking about your technical experience?
We talked a good amount about my senior project. He thought it was interesting and it actually has a lot to do with the field I am hoping to work in, robotics. It leads directly into thinking about systems as a whole and breaking them into parts. I need to continue to process systems that way and work towards understanding of big picture projects as well as the technical details.
Goals
- Work on my resume (fix the major wording and state I am a double major and add website for COMP project)
- Keep looking for job opportunities
- Practice for mock interviews
