This is the 8th post in a my progress blog for Activity #7 in the class slides. Welcome!

This interview happened Tuesday December 9th, 10-11pm EST and 7-8pm PST

This interview was really helpful! Shehryar started by talking about his work experience and sharing a little about himself. He graduated from Allegheny College in 1996 and this is the link to his Linked-In. Soon after college he moved to Seattle and then has lived there for the rest of his time since college. He was originally an international student at Allegheny from Pakistan. And so we were discussing Urdu which has a similar script to Arabic although Urdu is similar to Hindi which is written in San Script. It was helpful for me to hear some questions that might be asked in a software engineering interview. I was especially interested to hear about what software questions Shehryar would ask in the technical portion. It was fun to talk through different scenarios and just talk about technical ideas. He also gave me advice on my resume. I have a broad background and it’s all very different. He recommended condensing it into one page of the most important things. He recommended writing it while thinking if there was any one thing I want the reader to remember, what would that be? We also talked about the importance of GitHub accounts. Shehryar mentioned that some of the best hires he has made were people he found through viewing their source code on GitHub projects. He also said that my Linked-In account looks good. He congratulated me on having a job and told me to stay in touch and that he’s happy to help more. He has worked in career coaching and improving people’s resumes, so recommended that I stay in touch.
